Here are our steps to refurbish a solid oak kitchen worktop using Rubio Monocoat System

Preparation

We removed all items from the worktop and disconnected any appliances. Cleaned the surface thoroughly with a degreasing cleaner to remove built-up grime and cooking residue.

Assessment and Repair

We inspect the damages like scratches, stains and burns. Water damaged grey staines has been dealt with Owatrol Net-Trol wood cleaner. We allowed to dry completely according to manufacturer’s instructions.

Sanding

We did start with coarse sandpaper 120 grit to remove the old finish. Then progressed through medium 180 grit for a smooth finish. We sanded with the grain direction using a dust mask and ensured good ventilation.

Cleaning

After sanding all surface has been vacuumed then we used a tack cloth and finally used Rubio Cleaner. Allowed around an hour for the cleaner to dry completely.

Applying Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C A + B system

For this project client chose natural look and the best colour we chose – PURE from Rubio colour chart. The kitchen’s surface was around 15m2 and surprisingly 390ml was more than enough. Then we mixed part A (Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C) to part B (Rubio Monocoat hardener) for at least 2 minutes with a ratio 3 units  A to 1 unit B.

Once this mixed we used Rubio scrubby set to apply the product. We Waite around 10-15 minutes for it to soak into wood and wiped all excess with the cloth.

Curing

Allow the final coat to cure completely before heavy use – this can take 5 days.

Maintenance

We would recommend to use Rubio Monocoat cleaning sprays once worktop completely cured.
